Dhaka, April 13 (UNB)– The logo of the Sheikh Kamal U-20 National Football Tournament, organized by Bangladesh District and Divisional Football Association (BDDFA), was ceremonially unveiled at a local hotel on Saturday.
Member Secretary of the Bangabandhu Memorial Trust Sheikh Hafizur Rahman officially unveiled the logo, prepared with the image of Sheikh Kamal. BDDFA secretary general Tarafder M Ruhul Amin was also present on the occasion.
Eight divisional teams of the country, split into two groups, will initially compete in the first phase from April 17-22 at two venues—Narail and Natore.
Participating teams: Group A – (Venue-Narail), : Khulna, Dhaka, Rangpur and Barishal.
Group B – (Venue- Natore): Rajshahi, Chattagram, Sylhet and Mymensingh.
The two semifinals on April 25 and 26 and the final scheduled for April 28 will be played at Cox’s Bazar.
The day before the final, Cox’s Bazar will also host a grand conference of the sports organizers involved in football, from all over the country starting from division-level down to districts, clubs, education boards and even universities will be held on April 27.
Dhaka, Apr 13 (UNB)- Coming from behind, title aspirant Dhaka Abahani Limited beat rampant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 4-3 goals at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Saturday to maintain their winning run in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football.
The match was stopped for 35 minutes in the first half due to rain and bad light.
With the 4th win in a row, Dhaka Abahani remained at the 2nd slot in the 13-team league after Bashundhara Kings securing 30 points from 12 matches, one point behind league leader Bashundhara Kings while Sheikh Jamal DC remained at the 7th place with their previous collection of 13 points from 11 matches.
In the day’s match, both the teams tried their best to dominate the match from the beginning. Dhaka Abahani got the early blow when Sheikh Jamal’s Argentine forward Luciano Emanuel Araya Perez scored the first goal, utilising a cross of Sakhawat Hossain Rony in the very 1st minute of the match (1-0).
But the popular sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit levelled the margin in the 10th minute as their Afghan forward Masih Saighani fired the net, off a direct free kick from Nabib Newaz Zibon (1-1).
Abahani got the 2nd success in the 27th minute as the full back of Sheikh Jamal SM Manjur Rahman Manik headed the ball into his own net (2-1).
Despite of Sheikh Jamal’s fighting spirit from the beginning of the second half, Abahani got another success in the 63rd minute.
Abahani’s Haitian recruit Kervens Fils Belfort further widened the margin, capitalising on a pass from their Nigerian booter Sunday Chizoba Nwadialu (3-1).
After five minutes, Nabib Newaz Zibon further extended the Abahani margin scoring one more goal in the 70th minute (4-1).
With this goal, Zibon shared the top slot with his teammate Sunday Chizoba and Ballo Farmoussa of Muktiojoddha scoring eight goals each.
But, Sheikh Jamal fought hard to come back in the game. The all-yellow team got the chance in the 80th minute. Midfielder Jakir Hossain Ziku scored the 2nd goal for Sheikh Jamal as Abahani’s national coloured goalkeeper Shahidul Alam Sohel failed to grab the ball (4-2).
In the 90th minute, Jakir Hossain Ziku scored his 2nd goal and the 3rd goal for Sheikh Jamal (4-3).
Dhaka, Apr 13 (UNB) – The two bottom-placed teams-- Brothers Union Club and Team BJMC-- shared one point each in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football match after playing a goalless draw at Shaheed Bulu Stadium in Noakhali on Saturday.
With this draw, the 12th placed Brothers Union have now 5 points in eleven matches; with eight defeat, two draws and a victory.
On the other hand, BJMC earned a point after three losses in a row. They remained at the bottom with 4 points from eleven matches, with seven losses, four draws and without any null win.
Dhaka, Apr 13 (UNB) – Dilkhusha Sporting Club defeated Gouripur Sporting Club by 3-0 goal on Saturday in the Dhaka Mahanagari Second Division Football League at Bir Sherestha Shaheed Shipahi M Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur.
Afzol Mia, Hakim Bishwas, Rakibul Islam scored one goal each for Dilkhusha SC by the half time. Gouripur SC got the early blow while Afzol Mia led Dilkhusha SC in the 8th minute of the game (1-0). Then, Hakim Bishwas doubled the goal (2-0) in 24th minute. Rakibul Islam stroke just before the half time and netted the third goal for his side (3-0).
The second half remained goalless despite both of the sides showed some good efforts.
Barcelona, Apr 13 (AP/UNB) — Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde has left forward Lionel Messi off his squad for this weekend's Spanish league match, giving him more rest before the visit of Manchester United.
Messi and Sergio Busquets were both dropped by Valverde for Saturday's match at Huesca, which is in last place in La Liga.
Messi had his nose bloodied when he was hit in the face by United defender Chris Smalling during Barcelona's 1-0 Champions League win at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Valverde said on Friday that the knock had left Messi in need a break.
"I spoke to him and he is fine, but it was a hard knock," Valverde said. "He wasn't feeling good the day after nor during the rest of the match. It was like a truck had run over him."
Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique will miss the Huesca match due to suspensions, while Sergi Roberto will rest to recover from a muscle strain in his left leg. Ivan Rakitic won't travel because he has a fever, the club said.
Barcelona leads the Spanish league by 11 points with seven games left.
The defending Spanish champions host United on Tuesday in the return leg of their Champions League quarterfinal.
