Dhaka, Sept 30 (UNB)- The Bangladesh national team wants a boost in confidence by beating Bhutan a second time in 2 FIFA International Friendlies, ahead of their Joint Qualification for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 against Qatar and India in October.
Head Coach of Bangladesh National Football team Jamie Day said this to the newsmen after a training session on Monday at BFF artificial turf in Motijheel on Monday.
Bangladesh competed a superb win against higher-ranked Bhutan beating them 4-1 in the first friendly here on Sunday, and will play their remaining match against the Himalayan nation on Thursday (Oct 3) at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here.
“Players always enjoy a win. So, Bangladesh’s confidence will get a boost if they are able to beat Bhutan in both the matches, ahead of their Qatar and India matches,” Jamie said.
“We have done well yesterday (Sunday) against Bhutan and are now preparing for the next match. I have earlier said that we want to win both matches against them (Bhutan), because we want to complete our preparations with a positive note,” Bangladesh head coach added.
Bangladesh booters are preparing for the next ties in their Joint Qualification for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 against Qatar in their home match on October 10 at Bangabandhu National Stadium and their away match with India on October 15 at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
Asked about the preparations for the Qatar and India games, Jamie replied, “We played with confidence yesterday, we have scored the goals. These are positive sides. But, we will not get many chances against teams like Qatar and India. We will get one or two chances and we have to utilize it.”
Replying to query about their plans and tactics for Qatar and India, Jamie Day said, “The plan will be different against them. We will try to score goal without conceding any, but we will follow the same attacking tactics against them like the match against Bhutan.”
Bangladesh, who put Group E of the AFC Cup with Qatar, Oman, neighboring India and Afghanistan, started their campaign with a 0-1 goal defeat against Afghanistan in their first match at the Central Republican Stadium in the Tajik capital Dushanbe on September 10.
In the remaining group matches, Bangladesh will play Oman on November 14 in Oman, Afghanistan on 26 March 2020 in Bangladesh, Qatar on March 31 in Qatar, India on June 4 in Bangladesh and Oman on June 9 in Bangladesh.
Dhaka, Sept 30 (UNB) – Bangladesh Under-18 Football team, which finished runners-up in the five-team SAFF U-18 Championship 2019 in Nepal, return home on Monday afternoon.
In the SAFF U-18 Championship, Bangladesh finished runners-up for the 2nd times in a row after conceding a 1-2 goals defeat against India in a keenly contested final at APF Stadium in Kathmandu on Sunday.
Earlier, Bangladesh were eliminated from the semifinal of the SAFF U-18 Championship in 2015 after conceding a 3-4 goals defeat against India in the penalty shootout in Nepal, but two years later Bangladesh crushed them by 4-3 goals in the group match of SAFF U-18 Championship 2017 in Bhutan.
Sherpur, Sept 30 (UNB) – Sherpur District team reached the final of the Mymensingh Division of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup (U-17) Football Tournament eliminating Netrokona District team by 2-1 goals at the Rofiquddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh on Monday.
Earlier, State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid MP inaugurated the Mymensingh Divisional phase of the Bangabandhu and Bangamata Gold Cup Football Tournaments.
In the day’s keenly contested match, Tajuddin put Sherpur ahead in the 22nd minute by a spectacular shot outside from the danger zone (1-0) while Towfiq restored the parity for Netrokona in the 43rd minute (1-1).
Striker Rabbi scored the match-winning goal for Sherpur in the 60th minute of the match (2-1).
Dhaka, Sept 30 (UNB) - NoFeL Sporting Club will play against Saif Sporting Club in the final of Walton Under-18 Football Tournament at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Shipahi Mohammad Mustafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur here on Tuesday.
The match will kick-off at 3 pm.
In a pre-match press-conference on Monday at BFF house in Motijheel, NoFeL trainer Akbar Hossain said that despite being the underdogs, they will give a tough fight against Saif SC.
“We weren’t well-prepared ahead of the tournament. Even, we started our campaign as the underdogs. But, our dream was to reach final and now we are here. Saif SC are strong side but we will give them a tough fight in the final,” Akbar added.
On the other hand, Saif trainer Kamal Babu said, “We have participated here with the target of producing quality footballers for the club and we have done it. Our target was to play final and we made it successfully. Now, we are eying for the cup.”
Besides, Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Abdus Salam Murshedy, General Secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag, Executive Director of Walton Group FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn and two key players from the two teams were also present on the occasion.
Abdus Salam Murshedy, who is also the chairman of BFF Professional Football League Committee, thanked the sponsor of the tournament Walton Group.
A total of twelve Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) clubs – split into four groups – participated in the tournament.
Group D Champions Saif SC reached final eliminating Dhaka Abahani Limited by 5-0 goals in the 2nd semifinal at Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) here on September 27 while the Group D runners-up NoFel SC reached final eliminating Bashundhara Kings by 4-3 goals in tie breaker in the 1st semifinal at the same venue on September 26.
In their previous meet, Saif Sporting Club played 1-1 draw against NoFeL Sporting Club in the opening match of the Walton Under-18 Football Tournamentat at BNS here on September 13.
