Dhaka, Apr 13 (UNB)- Coming from behind, title aspirant Dhaka Abahani Limited beat rampant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 4-3 goals at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Saturday to maintain their winning run in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football.
The match was stopped for 35 minutes in the first half due to rain and bad light.
With the 4th win in a row, Dhaka Abahani remained at the 2nd slot in the 13-team league after Bashundhara Kings securing 30 points from 12 matches, one point behind league leader Bashundhara Kings while Sheikh Jamal DC remained at the 7th place with their previous collection of 13 points from 11 matches.
In the day’s match, both the teams tried their best to dominate the match from the beginning. Dhaka Abahani got the early blow when Sheikh Jamal’s Argentine forward Luciano Emanuel Araya Perez scored the first goal, utilising a cross of Sakhawat Hossain Rony in the very 1st minute of the match (1-0).
But the popular sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit levelled the margin in the 10th minute as their Afghan forward Masih Saighani fired the net, off a direct free kick from Nabib Newaz Zibon (1-1).
Abahani got the 2nd success in the 27th minute as the full back of Sheikh Jamal SM Manjur Rahman Manik headed the ball into his own net (2-1).
Despite of Sheikh Jamal’s fighting spirit from the beginning of the second half, Abahani got another success in the 63rd minute.
Abahani’s Haitian recruit Kervens Fils Belfort further widened the margin, capitalising on a pass from their Nigerian booter Sunday Chizoba Nwadialu (3-1).
After five minutes, Nabib Newaz Zibon further extended the Abahani margin scoring one more goal in the 70th minute (4-1).
With this goal, Zibon shared the top slot with his teammate Sunday Chizoba and Ballo Farmoussa of Muktiojoddha scoring eight goals each.
But, Sheikh Jamal fought hard to come back in the game. The all-yellow team got the chance in the 80th minute. Midfielder Jakir Hossain Ziku scored the 2nd goal for Sheikh Jamal as Abahani’s national coloured goalkeeper Shahidul Alam Sohel failed to grab the ball (4-2).
In the 90th minute, Jakir Hossain Ziku scored his 2nd goal and the 3rd goal for Sheikh Jamal (4-3).
